BRIEF HISTORY…
The Carmel Community Playhouse at Clay Terrace is the new home of Carmel Community Players, Carmel’s oldest community theater group. In August of 2009, after several disheartening setbacks, including losing $80,000 in arts funding from the City of Carmel and losing its lease at Studio 15 in the Carmel Arts District, the remaining members of the CCP Board of Directors, along with a core group of CCP faithful, went on a mission to find a new home and formulate a plan for fundraising.
Carmel Community Players presented a plan to mall owners Simon Property Group and Lauth Property Group to open a community theater space in the Clay Terrace outdoor mall located near 146th Street and U.S. 31 in Carmel, Indiana. CCP reached an agreement with the mall owners. The result is a 4,500 sq. ft. space at the south end of Clay Terrace in the old Memoirs scrapbooking store location.
The Carmel Community Playhouse at Clay Terrace will feature a 12′ x 32′ stage, seating for approximately 130 people, concession area, box office, green room, dressing room, kitchenette, storage room and two restrooms. There is ample parking, a rear “actors” entrance, and visibility in a high-traffic area. The Playhouse is conveniently located within walking distance to 70 retail shops and 17 restaurants including Kincaid’s, Kona Grill, Mitchell’s, Jimmy John’s, Bar Louie, Ted’s Montana Grill and Starbucks.
Besides Carmel Community Players staging productions, The Playhouse is available to rent. Other local theaters, organizations, businesses and schools can rent the facility for a variety of purposes including rehearsals, recitals, stage productions, business meetings, receptions, and more.
